Suvereto4 km from Boschi di Montecalvi: you can easily reach this medieval village with a pleasant walk.
Suvereto is an ancient village, one of the most striking examples of medieval architecture in Tuscany. The beautiful church of Saint Justus was built before 1000 A.D. Inside the ancient walls that still encircle almost entirely the village, stands the eighteenth-Century Madonna church and the impressive City Hall, erected from 1201 A.D. with its tipical Judge’s Loggia, the staircase and the battlemented tower.Suvereto is an important stop of the “Wine Track”, a track that connects villages that make the best wines of the area. Suvereto is the most important area of production of the DOC wine Val di Cornia. In December there’s a Medieval cortege through the streets of Suvereto. Also in December there’s the Wild Boar Fest. Suvereto has been acknowledged as Città Slow, Bandiera Arancione, Città del Vino, Città dell’olio e I Borghi più belli d’Italia
Campiglia Marittima 10 km from Boschi di Montecalvi through the normal paved rock, but only 5 km through a short cut with a 4 wheels vehicle or mountain bike.
Campiglia is a medieval town: a part of its walls is still standing. In the center of the village there’s the City Hall with a façade full of escutcheons of the oldest families. On the left side of the City Hall there’s a beautiful wide stretch with stone buildings, loggias, staircases and medieval arches. In the middle of August there’s a Medieval cortege and an incredible number of performers and attractions together with tasting of only local specialties. All in the attractive scenery of the old town.
Populonia 20 km from Boschi di Montecalvi. This is one of most important archaeological sites of the area and the whole Tuscany, because of its Etruscan rests. In the beautiful scenery of the Baratti Gulf you can admire the Etruscan tombs. Head up to the ancient village and the medieval fortress, from where you can enjoy an outstanding view over the coast; the islands of the tuscan archipelago and Corse seem just a stone’s throw away.
Archaeological and Mineral Park and Saint Silvester Fortress:5 km Campiglia Marittima. These are the rest of an ancient mining village built in the X century and abandoned in the XIV century. Its inhabitants were devoted to mining activities, and the village is very well preserved. This is one of the largest archaeological sites of medieval time of the whole Mediterranean, and it is also an open-air museum which reconstructs how metals were worked from the Etruscan times until our century.

Massa Marittima35 km from Boschi di Montecalvi. This is one of the finest examples of medieval town planning, with its intact old center, dominated by the magnificent cathedral. During summer, opera is played in the church piazza. Other important buildings include the City Hall, the Podestà Palace, the Bishop Palace, and other palaces of noble families. Among other important monuments, there’s the Candeliere Tower, with its great arch: its audacious architecture attracts scholars from all over the world.
Castagneto CarducciIs easy to reach through the paved road (28 km), or, if you have a 4 wheels vehicle, in only 10 km. This famous village is on the top of a hill from where you can enjoy a beautiful view over the coast. Pass through the long and straight avenue to Bolgheri, lined by high cypresses, celebrated by the famous Italian poet Giosuè Carducci, who was born here, in one of its poems. The cypresses go all the way to the small church of Saint Guy.
